Being a good athlete requires certain characteristics that will make him/her stand out from the crowd, all driven by a single objective: becoming the best. It’s important to embody the attitude that will lead you where you want. For this reason at Tekulve Acceleration, we would like to tell you about some of the most important features an athlete should have.

Accountability
It’s very easy to blame others for adverse conditions, poor performance or other negative results. A true athlete takes responsibility for anything that happens and knows how to cope with adversities, and they are constantly analyzing their training or competition environment to learn how to improve it. 

Teamwork
“There is no I in team” (unless you play an individual sport!). Being part of a team represents many things, and setting aside your own ego and needs is one of them. Remember that everyone in a team has a special role and everyone should fulfill it to achieve success. 

Self-confidence
You could be the fastest athlete, but if you don’t believe in yourself, you won’t go far. Confidence is based on hard work and it’s slowly achieved by conquering small and achievable objectives. Not being afraid of potential failure is important to maintain confidence. 

These characteristics are essential and they don’t develop overnight; every athlete should work hard to gradually establish them in their life to achieve their goals.

Characteristics of a Good Coach

There are certain qualities that good coaches must have to motivate and boost the abilities of their athletes. They are responsible for providing athletes with advice, support and guidance to reach athletic goals. For this reason Tekulve Acceleration would like to tell you about some of the characteristics of a good coach

An athlete’s primary tool is their body. Keeping it healthy and safe is paramount to their success and enjoyment in sport.

  • A great coach has a complete understanding and passion for the game, which will allow them to create specific plays, strategies and training programs to fulfill their goals.
  •  Staying up to date with techniques and coaching concepts. 

 Encourages the team to have fun.
  • Congratulate their successes.
  • Reminds athletes that the fun parts of sports (bonding with teammates, learning new skills, exercising, etc.) are the key elements of sport. The goal of playing is not just to win, but especially to grow as an athlete and person.

Managing the Heat While You Train this Summer



Beat the Heat as You Train this Summer

Staying physically active through the summer can prove to be a challenge. The heat creates a tough environment to work out in and can even create dangerous conditions. Properly preparing for the summer heat and adjusting your plans can create the ideal conditions for you to continue your physical activities. Here at Tekulve Acceleration, we can help you stay active this summer with some useful tips to manage the heat. 

Plan Your Workout Schedule
If your workout requires that you step outdoors, plan ahead in order to avoid the heat. The best times to complete your physical activities while avoiding overly hot conditions are in the morning hours or later in the evening. Do your best to avoid being exposed to the sun for prolonged periods of time. 

Take Care of Yourself
The heat can make your workout more difficult to complete. Make sure you listen to your body and don't force yourself too much. There is no shame in taking water breaks or shortening your workout. It is extremely important that you drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated throughout your workout. You should always wear sunscreen while outdoors. Keep in mind that the sun's rays can still cause harm when the weather is cloudy. Make sure to wear a hat or a visor and sunglasses to protect your face from the sun. 

Dress Appropriately for the Heat
Wearing lightweight and light colored clothing can help keep you cool as you work out. Loose fitting articles of clothing can help sweat evaporate faster and keep you feeling fresh. Light colored clothing will reflect the sun instead of absorbing it. Light weight clothing breathes better and will help your body temperature stay cooler. Avoid wearing cotton T-shirts as they trap moisture.
